1. Organise a property appraisal
Most properties can grow trees but the economic viability of a plantation investment is a more complex question. A property appraisal enables Heartwood foresters to assess the likely productivity, management costs, potential road works and any planning issues required for the project. After a property appraisal you will know if your site is suited to a plantation investment. In most cases property appraisals are offered free of charge.
2. Undertake a Plantation Development Plan
Assuming a positive property appraisal, a Plantation Development Plan can be produced. Plantation Development Plans outline important information on your site’s growth capacity, the most suited species, and the likely markets and returns for the timber to be grown. These comprehensive plans are also useful for cash flow planning, taxation purposes, and a guide for future management operations such as pruning and thinning.
As part of this process, Heartwood Plantations will organise soil evaluation activities to to at least 3 metres depth to profile physical and chemical soil characteristics to determine suitability for plantation investment.
Plantation Development Plans are undertaken from $2,200 per site.
